WHAT ARE SOME TYPICAL SYMPTOMS OF HEART DISEASE IN WOMEN?

More women present with atypical symptoms than men, and some women have no symptoms of heart disease. Common Heart attack symptoms in women can be pressure in the chest, shortness of breath, jaw pain, throat pain, and pain in the upper abdomen or back. Pain can be sharp, dull, burning, or indigestion-like. These episodes can occur during rest or physical activity or can be triggered by mental stress.

Let’s review women’s symptoms of heart disease in more detail.

  • You might experience chest pain or discomfort, which is the most common symptom of a heart attack for both men and women. However, as a woman, you’re more likely to have symptoms unrelated to chest pain. These can include shortness of breath, nausea, vomiting, and back or jaw pain. You might feel these symptoms during rest or physical activity, and they can occur without any chest discomfort.

  • Pay attention to unexplained fatigue or sudden tiredness that’s out of the ordinary for you. This could be a sign that your heart isn’t functioning properly. You might also experience dizziness, lightheadedness, or fainting spells. While these symptoms can be attributed to various causes, they shouldn’t be ignored, especially if they occur frequently or are accompanied by other symptoms.

If you’re having a heart attack, you might feel pressure, squeezing, fullness, or pain in the center of your chest lasting more than a few minutes. This discomfort might come and go. You could also experience pain or discomfort in one or both arms, your back, neck, jaw, or stomach. Nausea, breaking out in a cold sweat, or lightheadedness are other potential warning signs.

As a woman, you’re more likely to experience certain symptoms that men typically don’t. These include sleep disturbances and anxiety. You might also notice swelling in your feet, ankles, legs, or abdomen. These symptoms can develop suddenly or gradually over days or weeks.
