WHAT DO I DO IF I NEED REFILLS OF MY MEDICATIONS?

If you need a refill of your heart medicines, please contact our medical assistants or log on to your account through the Patient Portal (here). They will then notify your physician, who can authorize refills for you. When you see your physician in the office, it is always best to bring your medications with you. Our medical assistants will update your chart and notify the doctor if drugs must be reordered.

Let’s review the importance of filling your heart medications and taking them daily.

Consistently taking your heart medications as prescribed can have a significant positive impact on your overall health and quality of life. These medications work in various ways to support your heart function, such as lowering blood pressure, reducing cholesterol levels, controlling heart rate, or preventing blood clots. By maintaining a steady level of these medications in your system, you’re providing your heart with continuous support and protection. This consistency can lead to better management of your condition, fewer symptoms, and a reduced risk of hospitalizations or severe cardiac events.

It’s important to understand that skipping doses or discontinuing heart medications without consulting your doctor can have serious consequences. Many heart medications are designed to be taken regularly to maintain their effectiveness. When doses are missed or the medication is abruptly stopped, it can lead to a rapid decline in the medication’s protective effects. This can result in a rebound of symptoms, increased blood pressure, or even trigger potentially dangerous cardiac events. Our Atlanta heart doctors strongly advise against changing your medication regimen without professional guidance.

While the importance of taking heart medications is clear, many patients face challenges adhering to their prescribed regimen. Common obstacles include forgetfulness, concerns about side effects, complex dosing schedules, or the cost of medications. If you’re experiencing any of these issues, discussing them with our Atlanta heart doctors is crucial. They can work with you to find solutions, such as simplifying your medication schedule, addressing side effects, or exploring more affordable medication options.
