Dr. Markus Porkert is a general cardiologist practicing in Gwinnett since 2006. Dr. Porkert completed his MD degree at Emory University, where he was a member of the Medical Honor Society (AOA). He completed a residency in internal medicine at the University of Texas Southwestern in Dallas and a fellowship in cardiology at Emory University.
He offers eighteen years of experience in private practice and the hospital setting. He started practicing with the Cardiovascular Group in Lawrenceville in 2006. In 2012, he joined the Piedmont Heart Institute to lead their Snellville office and became director of cardiology at Eastside Medical Center. In August 2015, he joined the partnership between Eastside Medical Center and Gwinnett Medical Group, practicing in Snellville and Loganville.
Dr. Porkert is board-certified in internal medicine, cardiology, echocardiography, and nuclear cardiology. He enjoys seeing patients with any cardiac condition, from preventative care to more complicated cases of coronary and peripheral arterial disease and heart failure. He has expertise in interpreting transthoracic echocardiograms, nuclear stress tests and performing transesophageal echocardiograms. He is a fellow of the American College of Cardiology, a member of the American Society of Echocardiography, and the recipient of numerous honors and awards.
Dr. Porkert cares for patients in our Snellville office. “I approach each patient individually and adjust their care based on their situation and their choice. I don’t like a cookie-cutter approach and prefer to educate them as best I can and partner with them rather than dictating each step of their care.”

Dr. Porkert was born in Germany and moved to the U.S. when he was seven. At the time, he didn’t speak English. “I built my cardiology career in Gwinnett and Walton Counties and have
been practicing since 2006. I enjoy my regular office clinic and seeing patients, some of whom
started with me at the beginning of my career.”
Dr. Porkert enjoys spending time with his family, traveling, and trying new restaurants. He enjoys playing sports, exercising, attending athletic events, and listening to sports podcasts.
