Best Sports Activities for Heart Patients

Exercising helps to improve heart health. It helps us lose or keep off weight, as well as control cholesterol, blood sugar, and blood pressure levels. But what physical activity can you participate in after heart surgery? The answer: Even heart patients must continue to stay active. Talk to your doctor before starting a new sports activity. Here are some activities that you should discuss with your physician.

Effective Sports Activities for Heart Patients

    ·  Swimming

Swimming is a very popular sport which keeps us active. This full-body workout increases heart size and makes it pump blood more efficiently. This process keeps blood flow smooth and reduces coronary heart disease up to 40 percent. With regular swimming, you can reduce your BP and decrease the chances of developing heart disease.

    ·  Tennis

Tennis is an aerobic and anaerobic exercise that burns fat and increases the oxygen intake that runs your heart rate at higher levels. This process will bring oxygen and nutrients in your cells, muscles, and keep your blood flow smooth.

No need to run sideline to sideline. Tennis is a sport that can be played at a fast or relaxed pace. So serve and volley!

    ·  Cycling

Cycling is one of the best total-body workouts. And it places less wear and tear on the knees. Cycling helps to improve joint mobility, decrease body fat percentage, and prevent or manage a long list of diseases. Time to serve!

    ·  Aerobics

Aerobics enhances blood circulation and decreases blood pressure and heart rates. Just 30 minutes of aerobic exercises — brisk walking, running, swimming, cycling, and jumping rope — can improve heart health. To find a trail. Take a walk around the block during your lunch break. Do whatever you can to stay active.

    Conclusion

If you are struggling with staying active, schedule an appointment with one of our heart-healthy specialists. For decades, we have helped patients in the Greater Atlanta area make smart medical and lifestyle decisions. You owe it to your heart!
