    Our Recommended Heart Disease Apps

Heart disease is used to describe many heart-related conditions such as coronary artery disease, arrhythmia and heart infections. According to the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), heart disease is the leading cause of death in the United States. Both men and women are vulnerable to heart disease for various reasons, and early detection of cardiac events can be lifesaving.

Thanks to advancing technology, there are apps specifically designed to effectively monitor your blood pressure (BP), heart rate and more. These apps can be used on mobile devices or Apple watches, so people can track their heart activity wherever they go. Now more than ever, you can be in control of your heart health. We’ve put together a list of our favorite heart disease apps available for download today.

    Qardio

Qardio was featured by Apple as the Best Health App and Best Medical App in 2017 due to its abundance of metrics. It can track more metrics than any other health app in the app store right now; these metrics including: Blood pressure, heart rate, irregular heartbeat, weight, BMI, body composition (percentage of body fat, muscle, bone, and water), EKG, heart rate variability (HRV), respiratory rate, calories, steps, and skin temperature. Qardio is compatible for both iPhones and Androids, and it received five stars from Apple reviewers and four stars from Android reviewers.

    Blood Pressure Companion

Blood Pressure Companion allows you to record, analyze and share blood pressure measurements with your doctors. You can also track heart rate and weight, which are other important risk factors for heart disease. The app’s extensive but user-friendly charts, graphs and histograms help to track and analyze progress over time. Once you import data such as blood pressure into the app, it is graphically evaluated and can be easily exported as a PDF for easy distribution to physicians. It is available for both iPhones and Androids, and it received four and a half stars for Apple users and four stars for Android.

    PulsePoint

PulsePoint helps provide life-saving assistance to victims of cardiac arrest in a revolutionizing way. Application users who have indicated they are trained in CPR are notified if someone close by is suffering a cardiac event and may require CPR. If the medical emergency is in a public area, the application uses sophisticated location-based technology to alert trained citizens in the surrounding area of the need for CPR. The application also directs these Good Samaritans to the exact location of the closest public access Automated External Defibrillator (AED). This app is provided for both iPhones and Androids, and it received four and a half stars for both.

    Instant Heart Rate

Instant Heart Rate has been voted the number one heart rate app in nine different countries and can measure your heart rate in less than 10 seconds. You place your finger on the phone’s camera, and the app detects a color change each time your heart beats. An advanced algorithm is then used to calculate heart rate. Instant Heart Rate includes a chart to show you each heartbeat, similar to pulse oximeters used in hospitals. This app is available for both iPhones and Androids, and it received five stars from Apple users and four stars from Android users.

    Cardiio

Cardiio is based on technology licensed from MIT and calculates heart rate differently from any other heart monitoring app. It can calculate heart rate by measuring blood flow changes in your face. Every time your heart beats, the blood flow in your face increases, causing more light to be absorbed. Cardiio uses the camera in your phone to capture small changes in reflected light from your face, thus calculating heart rate. This app is only suitable for Apple products and received four and a half stars.

    How to Choose?

There is no one perfect health app. People’s unique health habits and heart conditions allow for different results from different apps. Some people will benefit more from one than another, which is why you should try several before deciding which is right for you. There are other good options for heart health apps in addition to the ones listed above, including Cardiogram, HeartWatch and Apple Heart Study.

Although the advancement of mobile apps has allowed for more accurate and reliable cardiovascular monitoring at home, it is still important to consult with your cardiologist regularly.
